Last year, wind power and photovoltaic power generation exceeded 1 trillion kilowatt-hours for the first time, up 21% year on year, accounting for 13.8% of China’s total electricity consumption

In 2022, China’s new installed capacity of wind power and photovoltaic power generation exceeded 120 million kW, exceeding 100 million kW for three consecutive years, hitting another record high. Wind power and photovoltaic power generation exceeded 1 trillion KWH for the first time, reaching 1.19 trillion KWH, up 21% year on year, accounting for 13.8% of China’s total electricity consumption and close to the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents.

The competitiveness of renewable energy sources is growing. Wang Dapeng, deputy director of the New and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, said that at present, onshore 6 MW and 10 MW offshore fans have become the mainstream, and the average conversion efficiency of mass-produced monocrystalline silicon cells reaches 23.1%; New modes and new forms of photovoltaic sand control, agriculture + photovoltaic and hydrogen production from renewable energy are constantly emerging, and distributed development has become the main way of wind power photovoltaic development. In 2022, the newly installed distributed photovoltaic capacity is 51.11 million kW, accounting for more than 58% of the newly installed photovoltaic capacity in that year.

Renewable energy continues to lead the world. China’s photovoltaic modules, wind turbines, gearboxes and other key components account for 70% of the global market share. At the same time, the development of renewable energy contribute to global emissions, in 2022 China’s renewable energy generation is equivalent to reduce domestic carbon dioxide emissions about 2.26 billion tons, export of wind power photovoltaic products for other countries to reduce carbon dioxide about 573 million tons, total reduction 2.83 billion tons, accounting for about 41% of the global renewable energy converted carbon emissions over the same period.

In recent years, China has accelerated the construction of a unified national power market system. In 2022, both the transaction scale and the number of entities in the electricity market will hit a record high. The total amount of electricity traded in the national market was 5.25 trillion KWH, up 39% year on year, accounting for 60.8% of the total social electricity consumption, up 15.4 percentage points year on year. Among them, the inter-provincial and inter-regional market transaction electricity exceeded 1 trillion KWH for the first time, an increase of nearly 50% year on year. The role of the market in promoting the optimization of the allocation of power resources in a larger range is constantly increasing.
